Linen Curtains and Woven Shades for the Master Bedroom

April 24, 2017

Hello and Happy Monday!

Did you all have a nice weekend?

We had such a beautiful, sunny weekend here (the second in a row – feels like a record!) – the trees are all in bloom, tulips are popping up in the backyard, and it’s just been so nice to have a break from all the rain and cloudy skies we’ve had for what seemed like months.

I shared last week that I made a little progress in giving the master bedroom a facelift. Aside from a new paint color (check!), and a new bed (still in the works), one of the other MUST do’s to get our master bedroom looking the way I have been wanting was to replace the drapes.

I hated those drapes.

Pretty much from day one I hated those drapes.

So why did I ever buy them?

Because in order to sleep, I need a dark, dark room and they were blackout drapes, they were cheap, and they were neutral – terribly shiny synthetic neutral – but neutral nonetheless.  So I put up with them for the last five years.

I know they don’t look bad in the picture (I hated them so much, I tended to crop them out of pictures – it was hard to find one to even show you), but trust me – they were definitely not my style. Too dark, too heavy, too shiny – just all sorts of wrong.

So now that the bedroom has a pretty new coat of white paint, no way were they going back up in here.  I love the light and breezy combination of a white semi-sheer curtain with a woven shade in a bedroom, so that’s what I really wanted to see in here.

I found woven shades at Lowe’s (I chose this one) – they came lined and they are able to custom cut them to fit right there at the store.  Super convenient and a breeze to install – even for my limited skills. My ultimate goal is to move the linen curtains currently hanging in our dining room to this bedroom – but I have to find something to replace them with in the dining room first, so for now I grabbed the old window treatments that used to hang in my home office. They’re just a light beige linen-type material that I picked up on clearance at Home Goods forever ago.

I was worried that even with the lining on the shade, there would still be too much light coming in and robbing me of my precious shut-eye, but nope.  They do the job just fine.

Like I said, not my ultimate goal as far as the overall look, but they will do until I can start a curtain swap-o-rama throughout the house. They still have a light and breezy feel, and the price was right…you know? πŸ˜‰

Little by little, this room is finally starting to turn into what I’ve been dreaming up in my head for months…or…umm…years…

And I just received a notification that my new bedside lamps have shipped – finally.  Yay!  More on those soon. πŸ™‚

Have a great week, friends!

What will you be doing with your current bed frame and night stands when you find new furniture to replace them? I’d be interested in purchasing if you go the Craigslist route! πŸ˜‰

Hi Katy! I probably will end up doing something like Craigslist when I find replacements. I’ll let you know first before anything gets listed in case you’re still interested!

Hi Tonya, looks great! I have always liked this style of window treatment, but have shied away because of the length. They are always way too long for my windows (twice as long as the window length). I didn’t want to have a big roll of excess, you know. I was wondering how that was for you. Will you comment on that? I would love to be able to overcome this issue and try this type of blind. Thanks so much! Glad you are back!!

Hi Judy! I have the same problem – these blinds are nearly twice as long as my windows too. However, I don’t find much issue with it – they fold up nice and tight at the top (this was my biggest concern as I didn’t want to cover too much of the window) and while there is excess at the bottom when they are down, it doesn’t bother me. I’m the kind of person that has to have my blinds open from sun up to sun down, so really they’re only down at night while I’m sleeping and then I don’t care. πŸ˜‰

Ikea has beautiful heavy-ish white linen drapes for a very reasonable price. Check them out. I got them for my dining room and loved them so much, I got another set for the guest bedroom!!!
