Simple Fall Front Porch

October 16, 2017

Simple Fall Front Porch

I finally got around to getting my porch decorated for fall last week.  It’s been so darn hot and I’ve been out of town the past couple of weekends, so I  didn’t even realize we were already halfway into October.  What?!?!  Guess it was time for me to get my decorating butt in gear and get some pumpkins out there.

I didn’t do much this year.  I brought home a pile of pumpkins and a load of mums last year and almost all of the pumpkins rotted before Halloween and almost all of the mums dried out and died even sooner. And since this fall season has been even warmer than last year (this better not be a trend Mother Nature, or you and I are going to have words…), I decided to take it easy on the mums and pumpkins and tried to supplement with a few things from around the house.

Fall Front Porch and Halloween Front Door

Fall Front Porch and Halloween Front Door

I bet you’re thinking, “Oh yay, their porch is finished!”

Nope.

In fact, it hasn’t seen any real progress since I last shared an update.

And as not so fun as that is, that’s just the way these things go sometimes.

But I couldn’t let pumpkin season pass me by without doing a little decorating outside.  Let’s face it, sometimes you just have to embrace the current imperfections and go with it.

Pumpkins and Plaid

October 14, 2016

Pumpkins and Plaid

Although the weather has for the most part felt like anything but fall this season, I’m still going about my business indulging in all my favorite seasonal traditions.

I’ve been baking on 80 degree days.

I officially retired my flip flops for the year and wear boots no matter how warm the day is supposed to get.

I’ve been cooking up soup, and chili, and other favorite comfort food even though the evenings are still perfectly pleasant for grilling outside.

While most are thrilled to see the warm days continue as we head into the middle of October, I can’t help but be just a bit disgusted every time I see a temp that starts with a 7 or an 8 in the forecast.

I might even pout a little about it.

I feel like I’m being cheated.

Simple Pumpkin Centerpiece

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” – L. M. Montgomery

Ms. Montgomery is on to something there, don’t you think?

I, for one, couldn’t agree more.

October is by far my favorite month.

The colors.

The weather.

The comfort food.

Boots and sweaters.

Scary movies.

Leaves that crunch underfoot.

Our Anniversary (we celebrated nine years on the 6th!).

Pumpkins.

Casual and Neutral Thanksgiving Tablescape

Casual and Neutral Thanksgiving Tablescape

“The fondest memories are made while gathered ’round the table.”

I had a little fun over the past weekend playing around with a fall inspired tablescape. We won’t be having Thanksgiving in our home this year, but I wanted to share in case you were looking for inspiration to dress up your table for the upcoming holiday.

Wait.

What?

You don’t dress your table for imaginary dinner parties for fun on the weekends?

Boy are you missing out on a good time. [Read more…]

Rustic Fall Centerpiece

Rustic Fall Centerpiece

I have the easiest fall centerpiece to share with you today. You probably already have things you can use to recreate this yourself – and anything you don’t have can likely be found on your next trip to the grocery store. I actually did this same centerpiece last year, but I liked how it turned out and thought I would repeat it this year so I could share it with all of you. 🙂 [Read more…]

A Pumpkin Here, a Pumpkin There…

October 14, 2015

A Pumpkin Here, a Pumpkin There…

It’s October, so pumpkin season is in full swing (as if you didn’t notice, right?).  It seems the world has gone pumpkin crazy the last few years – be it baking, drinking, or decorating – but it’s because using pumpkins around the house is a really simple way to add seasonal decorating to your home.  Just plop down a pumpkin and poof! – instant fall décor (and of course it makes a tasty treat too). I shared my front steps and pumpkin mantel with you last week, but the pumpkin fun doesn’t stop there! I sprinkled in some of that pumpkin love in other areas of the house too. [Read more…]

A Little Bit of Fall Decorating Outside

October 7, 2015

A Little Bit of Fall Decorating Outside

I debated about decorating outside for fall this year. For one reason, the squirrels around here devour every last pumpkin on the block – don’t even get me started on what they did to my cornstalks last year. And for another, I absolutely love entries flanked by cornstalks, pumpkins, and mums, but our current front steps are very narrow and not all that decorator friendly (just wait til I get those new and improved, expanded steps next year!), and since we haven’t put the new steps in, we haven’t done any landscaping out front either – no sense planting something that might have to be torn out in a few months. So, although we have beautiful new shutters on the house, the rest of the front is a little bit blah right now. That said, it’s all about working with what you currently have, and I ended up with an overabundance of pumpkins this year, so I decided to take some of that fabulous pumpkin action outside. Confession time – I went a little bit crazy with the pumpkins this year. I don’t know what it was, I just kept bringing them home…and I can’t really promise it won’t keep happening… 🙂 [Read more…]
