Cozy Minimalism

Cozy Minimalism

I have never thought of myself as a minimalist.

Correction – I am not a minimalist.

I like things.

I like to buy things.

I like to collect things.

I like to be surrounded by things.

I don’t and never have liked a lot of visual clutter. Too much clutter and things being out of place makes me crabby and uneasy – but if I can keep all the crap contained and hidden away for a later day (out of sight, out of mind!), I am perfectly okay with that – it’s how I roll.

Until.

The Other Nightstand and Stripes

June 11, 2018

The Other Nightstand and Stripes

After I painted the first nightstand for my room (see it here), I had plans to paint another little stand I already had to use for the other side of the bed.

But every time I went to paint it, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.  I have always had plans to use that particular stand for the guest room and I really like it in its current color – so I grabbed another little table I have had for just about ever and gave it a try instead.  It was already white and the same general height as my other stand, so why not? This is not to say you can’t have two different color/height night stands (you totally can!), it’s just not the look I’m after.

Salvaged Candleholder

Salvaged Candleholder

Hi there!

I think it’s safe to say the only thing that has been consistent with this blog all year is its inconsistency. *sigh*

After getting through the divorce (those of you who have been there know what a bummer that can be), I rewarded myself with a little getaway to Mexico with one of my besties. She lives in D.C., so we met up in Cancun and spent the next few days soaking up the sun and laughing until we cried from morning until night. It was a perfect trip, exactly what I needed,  and I came home relaxed, rejuvenated, and truly looking forward to all that lies ahead in this “new” life.

Until about one week later.

Subtle Spring Details

Subtle Spring Details

Spring?

We finally have a few nice days coming up before a return to chilly weather – but the calendar tells me spring is upon us, so I have been slowly refreshing things inside.

When the spring season comes around I usually like to introduce little pops of green and softer colors and textures around the house. I’ve never been big into pastels, but anything in the family of white, ivory, beige or even a light gray, feels light and fresh to me.

When is it too Early to Decorate for Christmas?

November 10, 2017

When is it too Early to Decorate for Christmas?

I will admit that I may have indulged in an eye roll or two when I woke up November 1st to see my Instagram feed full of Christmas trees.

But what about the rest of fall?  What about Thanksgiving?  What’s the big rush?

We always seem so eager to move on to the next big thing.

It’s not that I don’t love Christmas, or that I don’t love seeing all the beautifully decked out rooms, or even that I haven’t started gathering my own ideas for the upcoming season.  I absolutely love having my home decorated with twinkle lights, and red and green, and all the festive cozy touches.  It truly is the most wonderful time of the year and I always look forward to it.

But for me, part of what makes the Christmas season so special, is that it’s so brief. I kind of like it that way.

Seven Finds to Refresh a Room for Summer – High and Low

Seven Finds to Refresh a Room for Summer – High and Low

How about a little high-low fun today?

I had a number of you tell me you enjoyed these posts way back when…and since it’s been a while since we’ve done one…and since I aim to please…

Let’s go shopping, shall we?

No matter whether you want to splurge or save, I searched and shopped my way through the internet last night to round up a great collection of awesome décor to bring a little summer flair to your home this season.

A little bit beachy.

Kind of casual.

A touch rustic.

Pleasantly neutral.

Perfectly summer.

Simply Vintage Summer Mantel

Simply Vintage Summer Mantel

You know how the New Year rolls around and everyone picks a word to describe or represent or inspire what they want to focus on/improve on for the upcoming year?

I didn’t do that.

I’ve never done that.

For the record, I think it’s a great idea – it’s just that I’m too lazy/too much of an over-thinker to make that kind of commitment 😉

But…

If I had picked a word – I think maybe my word would have been simplify.

Summer Saturday Ramblings

Summer Saturday Ramblings

Happy Saturday!

It’s been a while. And I’ve had some time off this week so my chores are all caught up (ok, that’s not really true – but most…ok…some of my chores are caught up).  And I’m avoiding the chores I still have to do (there. are. just. too. many), so I thought I’d pop in and chat a bit today and share a few things that I’m loving for summer.

Summer is here, friends!  It’s that time of year when the humidity kicks in to overdrive so that your skin never really feels like it dries after a shower.  Which can make getting into your jeans something of an Olympic sport – complete with high kicks, squats, and lots of jumping up and down.  Please tell me I’m not the only one who experiences this.
