The Other Nightstand and Stripes

June 11, 2018

The Other Nightstand and Stripes

After I painted the first nightstand for my room (see it here), I had plans to paint another little stand I already had to use for the other side of the bed.

But every time I went to paint it, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.  I have always had plans to use that particular stand for the guest room and I really like it in its current color – so I grabbed another little table I have had for just about ever and gave it a try instead.  It was already white and the same general height as my other stand, so why not? This is not to say you can’t have two different color/height night stands (you totally can!), it’s just not the look I’m after.

Painted Nightstand and New Lamps

Painted Nightstand and New Lamps

I’ve been going back and forth on what color to paint a couple of nightstands for my bedroom.

First I thought black.

Then I thought white.

Then black.

White.

The New Bed

November 3, 2017

The New Bed

So here it is.

The bed I think I maybe might be regretting.  And I suppose if you think you’re regretting something, than you probably are regretting something, so… there’s that.

It’s not the bed’s fault – it’s a perfectly beautiful bed.

It’s pretty. It’s unique. It’s well-made.  It’s sturdy.

Vintage Typewriter Stand

October 25, 2017

Vintage Typewriter Stand

I’ve been keeping a little secret from you.

About two months ago I bought a new bed.

It’s been…what…two years since I first started talking about finding a new bed for my bedroom?  Something like that, anyway.  And I finally went ahead and did it. But I’m kind of wondering what the heck I was thinking, because I don’t really think the bed I chose was the right choice.   I’m blaming the poor decision making on a broken heart.  My head just wasn’t in the right place.

But today isn’t about the bed – we’ll get into that another day – it’s about a nightstand (but you’ll get a tiny sneak peek at the bed in here too).

Because as soon as I put the new bed in the room, I knew I needed new nightstands.  I also knew I wanted them to be vintage in look and feel and dark gray or black in color.  I had one stand (in the basement – of course!) I could paint, but I needed something to go with it.

Linen Curtains and Woven Shades for the Master Bedroom

Linen Curtains and Woven Shades for the Master Bedroom

Hello and Happy Monday!

Did you all have a nice weekend?

We had such a beautiful, sunny weekend here (the second in a row – feels like a record!) – the trees are all in bloom, tulips are popping up in the backyard, and it’s just been so nice to have a break from all the rain and cloudy skies we’ve had for what seemed like months.

I shared last week that I made a little progress in giving the master bedroom a facelift. Aside from a new paint color (check!), and a new bed (still in the works), one of the other MUST do’s to get our master bedroom looking the way I have been wanting was to replace the drapes.

I hated those drapes.

Pretty much from day one I hated those drapes.

So why did I ever buy them?

An Update and a New Paint Color

An Update and a New Paint Color

Hi there!

So I took a little unintended break from things around here.  I’m so sorry if you have left me a comment or sent a message and I haven’t yet responded – I didn’t mean to neglect you all on purpose.  I started a project, and then things got busy, and then Jordan had his second surgery, and I basically didn’t even open my computer for nearly three weeks.

So what’s new?  How have you been?  Did you have a nice Easter?  I feel like we have so much to catch up on!

Design Dilemmas

Design Dilemmas

Remember a couple of months ago when I was all gung-ho on giving our bedroom a makeover (you can read my inspiration post here and a progress post here)?

I was so sure of what I wanted that room to be and how I was going to get it done. Sure, there were a few details I still had to figure out, but for the most part I was pretty confident about how I was going to make that room a whole new, beautiful space.

I rearranged the furniture, found new bedding, bought and painted a new dresser (still not happy with that by the way), had Jordan make an awesome shelf (you can see that here), and finally laid down the rug I purchased about six months prior.

And that’s when I hit a wall. [Read more…]

An Antique Trunk

An Antique Trunk

“I love when things are scraped, beaten, and chipped. Those qualities take me back in time, and I never tire of looking at them.” – Michelle Pattee

There has been an old trunk collecting dust in our basement since the day we moved in. We used it briefly in a previous home, and then it just ended up following us as we moved from place to place for a few years – usually ending up in storage. When we finally settled into this house, it never made its way upstairs for some reason. [Read more…]

Pottery Barn Inspired Display Cube

Pottery Barn Inspired Display Cube

One night last week, Jordan and I were having dinner when I started a conversation that went something like this:

Me: “Can you weld things?”

Him: “Yes.”

Me: “Like all kinds of things?”

Him: “Yeesss…?” (said with slight hesitation and a brief look of regret at having answered my first question affirmatively.)

Me: “Good, because I’d like you to make me this.” (At which point I plopped down my most recent Pottery Barn catalog, open to a page showcasing these display cubes.) [Read more…]

Master Bedroom Progress

Master Bedroom Progress

I am beginning to realize that this bedroom makeover will probably take some time. More time than I really thought it would. I’m happy with how it’s progressing, but I can see that it may be a while before I consider it “finished”. If I can ever really consider it finished, that is – it’s not really a concept I’m familiar with when it comes to our home – but I kind of like it that way. Our spaces are always evolving. 🙂

That said, it is starting to feel like a new room, and I like where it’s headed. I thought I’d give you a peek at some of the details today. Want to see?
