The Other Nightstand and Stripes

June 11, 2018

The Other Nightstand and Stripes

After I painted the first nightstand for my room (see it here), I had plans to paint another little stand I already had to use for the other side of the bed.

But every time I went to paint it, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.  I have always had plans to use that particular stand for the guest room and I really like it in its current color – so I grabbed another little table I have had for just about ever and gave it a try instead.  It was already white and the same general height as my other stand, so why not? This is not to say you can’t have two different color/height night stands (you totally can!), it’s just not the look I’m after.

I Needed a Side Table

April 9, 2018

I Needed a Side Table

Reason number 451 old crates are the best:

They make perfect little side tables.

I mentioned  I was in this weird place of not really knowing what I want to do style-wise around here.  I can feel a shift taking place, but details are still a little fuzzy, so while I’m figuring that out I’m trying my best not to bring in a whole lot of anything new.  This house if FULL of stuff, and I’m craving space and simplicity so impulse buys are not the best idea.  Nevertheless, I needed a little table to sit next to the chair in the living room.  Mostly because I always have something to drink nearby. Water…coffee…wine…I always have something to sip on – and what good is plopping down in a chair if you have no place to set your drink?

Random Ramblings

It’s snowing.

Again.

Seventh day in a row.

I’m not sure what’s going to break first, my back or my shovel but I’m getting one heck of an upper body workout this week I can tell you that.

The New Bed

November 3, 2017

The New Bed

So here it is.

The bed I think I maybe might be regretting.  And I suppose if you think you’re regretting something, than you probably are regretting something, so… there’s that.

It’s not the bed’s fault – it’s a perfectly beautiful bed.

It’s pretty. It’s unique. It’s well-made.  It’s sturdy.

Vintage Typewriter Stand

October 25, 2017

Vintage Typewriter Stand

I’ve been keeping a little secret from you.

About two months ago I bought a new bed.

It’s been…what…two years since I first started talking about finding a new bed for my bedroom?  Something like that, anyway.  And I finally went ahead and did it. But I’m kind of wondering what the heck I was thinking, because I don’t really think the bed I chose was the right choice.   I’m blaming the poor decision making on a broken heart.  My head just wasn’t in the right place.

But today isn’t about the bed – we’ll get into that another day – it’s about a nightstand (but you’ll get a tiny sneak peek at the bed in here too).

Because as soon as I put the new bed in the room, I knew I needed new nightstands.  I also knew I wanted them to be vintage in look and feel and dark gray or black in color.  I had one stand (in the basement – of course!) I could paint, but I needed something to go with it.

Summer Saturday Ramblings

Summer Saturday Ramblings

Happy Saturday!

It’s been a while. And I’ve had some time off this week so my chores are all caught up (ok, that’s not really true – but most…ok…some of my chores are caught up).  And I’m avoiding the chores I still have to do (there. are. just. too. many), so I thought I’d pop in and chat a bit today and share a few things that I’m loving for summer.

Summer is here, friends!  It’s that time of year when the humidity kicks in to overdrive so that your skin never really feels like it dries after a shower.  Which can make getting into your jeans something of an Olympic sport – complete with high kicks, squats, and lots of jumping up and down.  Please tell me I’m not the only one who experiences this.

Office Makeover – The Reveal

February 6, 2017

Office Makeover – The Reveal

Did you forget about the little office makeover we had going on over here?

I wouldn’t blame you if you did.

It was almost a whole year ago that I started talking about giving my home office a makeover.

I made a plan.

Then changed it.

Made another plan.

And then changed that too.

But once I got rolling with it, it all just kind of came together on its own and I’m so excited to share the finished project with you today.  It feels good to actually finish something.  We should probably try doing more of that around here. 😉

The Farmhouse Cabinet

January 13, 2017

The Farmhouse Cabinet

Earlier last fall, Jordan and I made a weekend trip to Michigan for a wedding.

As we pulled off the expressway and began making our way to the hotel, we pulled up to a stoplight and noticed a charming little shop across the street.

He immediately looked over at me, “We should probably stop, right?”

I glanced at the clock and shook my head, “Better not.  I don’t want to be late.”  We still had to get to the hotel, check-in, and get ready for the ceremony which was taking place in just a couple of hours.

So, I sadly watched out the window as we turned away from that charming little store with all the rusty, weathered, and worn treasures literally spilling out onto the sidewalk.

My husband knows me well, and knew I was dying to get inside that shop.  “Are you sure?  We have a little bit of time…”

I wasn’t about to turn that offer down twice, so we turned around and pulled into the driveway.  I was out of the truck in an instant.

The hunt was on.

Office Makeover – The Other Vintage Cabinet and an Update

November 7, 2016

Office Makeover – The Other Vintage Cabinet and an Update

I have been slowly chipping away at putting my little office back together over the past month or so.

I didn’t exactly take an organized approach to emptying the room out before this makeover started – instead I took the completely unorganized approach of just haphazardly throwing everything into boxes and totes and piling them up in the basement.

So now as things come back in, I’m going through them one by one, and taking the time to determine what needs to stay and what can go.

And I have come to the conclusion that in addition to being a pillow hoarder, an antiques hoarder, and a book hoarder, I am also a paper hoarder.

Cable bills from 2007?  Heat and electric bills from four addresses prior?

The Captain’s Chair

November 1, 2016

The Captain’s Chair

Jordan and I took a little antiquing adventure over the weekend and boy did we find some really great stuff.  We loaded the truck with old books, vintage pots, old doors, an old farm table (actually we had to leave that one behind for pick up at a later date – we ran out of room.  Next time we will take a trailer. 😉 ), an old medicine cabinet, baskets, random little treasures, and one really awesome, completely one of a kind, wood feeding trough/tray.

I haven’t decided just what I’m going to do with the trough yet, so you’ll have to wait to hear me gush about all of its rusty hardware – chippy white paint – chewed up wood – awesomeness for another day.  But it really is one of my favorite finds to date.
