The Other Nightstand and Stripes

June 11, 2018

The Other Nightstand and Stripes

After I painted the first nightstand for my room (see it here), I had plans to paint another little stand I already had to use for the other side of the bed.

But every time I went to paint it, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.  I have always had plans to use that particular stand for the guest room and I really like it in its current color – so I grabbed another little table I have had for just about ever and gave it a try instead.  It was already white and the same general height as my other stand, so why not? This is not to say you can’t have two different color/height night stands (you totally can!), it’s just not the look I’m after.

Salvaged Candleholder

Salvaged Candleholder

Hi there!

I think it’s safe to say the only thing that has been consistent with this blog all year is its inconsistency. *sigh*

After getting through the divorce (those of you who have been there know what a bummer that can be), I rewarded myself with a little getaway to Mexico with one of my besties. She lives in D.C., so we met up in Cancun and spent the next few days soaking up the sun and laughing until we cried from morning until night. It was a perfect trip, exactly what I needed,  and I came home relaxed, rejuvenated, and truly looking forward to all that lies ahead in this “new” life.

Until about one week later.

I Needed a Side Table

April 9, 2018

I Needed a Side Table

Reason number 451 old crates are the best:

They make perfect little side tables.

I mentioned  I was in this weird place of not really knowing what I want to do style-wise around here.  I can feel a shift taking place, but details are still a little fuzzy, so while I’m figuring that out I’m trying my best not to bring in a whole lot of anything new.  This house if FULL of stuff, and I’m craving space and simplicity so impulse buys are not the best idea.  Nevertheless, I needed a little table to sit next to the chair in the living room.  Mostly because I always have something to drink nearby. Water…coffee…wine…I always have something to sip on – and what good is plopping down in a chair if you have no place to set your drink?

Painted Nightstand and New Lamps

Painted Nightstand and New Lamps

I’ve been going back and forth on what color to paint a couple of nightstands for my bedroom.

First I thought black.

Then I thought white.

Then black.

White.

Winter Dining Room

Winter Dining Room

What’s the best way to refresh a space when your wallet is recovering from the holidays (and those hard to resist post-holiday sales)?

Move the things you already have around!

Swap an end table with a night stand.  Use that old trunk at the foot of the bed for a coffee table. Move your dining buffet lamps into the living room.  It’s amazing sometimes what giving new purpose to an old piece can do – and it’s free.

Pretty Winter Mantel

Pretty Winter Mantel

You all are such an easy bunch to please.

In my last post I asked what you wanted to see here and based on the feedback, what I thought was boring you all to tears is exactly what you come here for.  You like seeing simple and easy ways to change things up  – no big budgets or messy renovations required.  That my friends, I can do – you are coming to the right place!

I think we all like the feeling of less clutter and open space at the start of a new year. It’s refreshing, rejuvenating, and I, for one, find it so much easier to just think and breathe when I’m not surrounded by a lot of stuff.

So every year when January rolls around I crave spaces that feel open, airy, and fresh, yet still maintain that warmth that makes you want to snuggle in on those cold winter nights.

Favorites From 2017

Happy New Year!!

So much promise comes with the start of a new year, doesn’t it?

Not to state the obvious, but I had no hesitations whatsoever about saying goodbye to 2017 – it was pretty much the worst year of my life.  And I wish I could say that I’m starting off 2018 with a clean state and a paved path to start fresh, but I’m not.  There are still loose ends to tie up and hurdles to be crossed, but I’m hoping to get those behind me within the first few months so I can then truly begin to move forward.  What exactly is moving forward going to look like?  I have no idea!  I’m just going to see where things take me and it will be a surprise for you and for me.

I’ll be honest – I have NO idea why you all come back here week after week.  I have NO idea how this blog continues to grow.  I feel like over the last year or so I’ve only given it half the attention it (and all of you) deserves and yet you’re all still here.  I do know that there are so many things I want to do with this blog.  Things I’ve been wanting to do for some time – I just haven’t been able to find the focus to sit down and put them all into place.  So I guess that’s a resolution of sorts – it’s something I would like to work on and something positive I can look forward to.  It also brings me to the next two things…

Cozy Christmas Living Room

Cozy Christmas Living Room

When one of your best friends flies in for the weekend from D.C. and you find yourselves on the couch, in your pjs, gabbing away by eight o’clock every night it can only mean one of two things:

A) You’re getting old

or

B) You’re living room is feeling too cozy this Christmas to be bothered to leave.

I’m guessing it’s option “A”, but I’d much rather like to think a little bit of “B” played a factor too.

Simple and Cozy Christmas Mantel

Simple and Cozy Christmas Mantel

Happy Monday!

I had an entirely different mantel set up this Christmas season, and then I visited a holiday pop-up shop hosted by Lucky Junk over the weekend and fell in love with the most perfect piece of Christmas art.  It was so very in tune with the rustic, woodland vibe I had going on this year that I just had to bring it home.

You know how that goes, right?

Rustic Christmas Dining Room

November 27, 2017

Rustic Christmas Dining Room

I tried something new last year and brought out less “Christmas” stuff and opted instead to use some of my favorite everyday things with just a little Christmas sprinkled in.

Such an eye-opener.

Not only was my decorating time cut in half, but I ended up with a look that was a little less cluttered, yet still festive and cozy.  Not to mention, the take-down was an absolute breeze.

I loved the simplified look from last year so much that I embraced the same thought again this year.
