After I painted the first nightstand for my room (see it here), I had plans to paint another little stand I already had to use for the other side of the bed.
But every time I went to paint it, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I have always had plans to use that particular stand for the guest room and I really like it in its current color – so I grabbed another little table I have had for just about ever and gave it a try instead. It was already white and the same general height as my other stand, so why not? This is not to say you can’t have two different color/height night stands (you totally can!), it’s just not the look I’m after.
And it worked just fine. The shade of white is a little bright in comparison to the other, but if it ever starts to get on my nerves, I’ll just repaint the first one a little brighter. This one has a perfect little chippy effect going on that I don’t want to mess with.
Here’s my “rule” when it comes to mixing and matching nightstands: I like them to be relatively close in size, height, and color OR completely different – as in a dresser and a trunk or a table and a stool, etc.
And if my nightstands are not the same, I want my lamps to be the same (or vice-versa).
That’s just my usual preference with these types of things – it still gives me a sense of symmetry without being too perfect. But you know what they say – rules are meant to be broken. So you do your thing – it’s your home. π
And then I added some striped sheets. I’m usually only in favor of white sheets, but thought a little pattern might be a nice change so I gave it a try. And I love it!
Gray stripes are never really going to steer you wrong, am I right?
And I know the big questions is, do I like the bed now that I’ve had it for a while?
It’s ok. I certainly don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. I like it. Some day I’ll swap it out for something more my style, but until then it’s fine.
So do you like your nightstands and lamps to match or are you all in favor in mixing it up?

Your room is so summery and cool looking – very inviting and soothing! I have matching night stands; they are my Grandmother’s end tables that she used in her living room. They are mahogany, with a beautiful legs and two drawers. They each have an extension on both sides, so you can make them smaller or larger. I love them, plus they fit perfectly withour mahogany bed. The lamps are matching too….and that’s starting to bug me a little. A change up may be on the horizon! Holding good thoughts for Alice’s return to full health!!

Thanks Kristine! Alice is still doing great so far (as far as I can tell)! How lucky to have something of your grandmother’s that you can put to use every day. I love anything that holds a memory. π

Looks great! I love the sheets and the lamps. The nightstands are perfect. Such a restful room. Have you ever seen the blog sheholdsdearly? I think you would like her style. Her bathroom remodels were so pretty and on a budget. I am really drawn to vintage. I have liked old things since I was a girl.

I am a white sheet girl but could totally go for those pretty striped ones!

I am usually a white sheet girl too – but these stripes really won me over!

The nightstands look wonderful and are a great look for your room. I have been looking for an old typewriter desk to use as a nightstand, but so far no luck (either in poor shape or too expensive). I love the bedding – very cool and crisp – perfect for summer.

Thanks! Stripes are perfect for summer, right?!

I’m sad about your dog but happy that you are sharing again, whether it’s good or bad. We seem to be in this together once we “sign up”. And I love your ideas. It’s fun to think about what you are doing and if it does or doesn’t work for me. It stimulates my creativity. Let’s aim for a great week.
