Spring?
We finally have a few nice days coming up before a return to chilly weather – but the calendar tells me spring is upon us, so I have been slowly refreshing things inside.
When the spring season comes around I usually like to introduce little pops of green and softer colors and textures around the house. I’ve never been big into pastels, but anything in the family of white, ivory, beige or even a light gray, feels light and fresh to me.
Sticking with my “use what you have right now” rule, I rummaged around all my favorite hiding places, and pulled out an ivory knit throw and an assortment of neutral pillows. Things like basketweave texture, jute trim and a paisley print caught my eye this time around.
I haven’t used my dough bowls for a while, so I grabbed the smaller one and used it to hold a trio of small bud vases for the coffee table. The large metal tray kind of breaks up all the wood and the little scatter of rusty keys were a recent gift from a friend.
I also brought the dictionary art from last year (see that project here) back out to hang over the chair. I’m fairly certain I bought a couple more frames and mats to make a couple more, but I am ashamed to say I have no clue where they are. I’m slowly weeding through stuff around here – so they’ll turn up (I hope)!
As for the mantel, I still liked what I had going on from the winter, so I tweaked it just a bit by adding in another glass bottle and eucalyptus stems and a little birds nest for an extra spring-like touch.
And other simple little vignette over on the apothecary cabinet. Same concept – different things. Twisty stems for a pop of green, wicker demijohn for spring texture, old books, and glass hurricanes for candlelight.
And another birds nest, because why not? It’s spring!
Subtle, and simple, but any kind of refresh can make a room feel new again.
Know what else makes a room feel new again? PAINT. I am dying (dying!) to get these walls painted and get some furniture moved around in here. Hopefully I can get to work on that soon. It’s time for a change.
What are you favorite ways to decorate for spring?

As much as I love how cozy and inviting your living room is during Christmas/winter….I MAY have to admit it’s just as beckoninging for Spring. I am especially taken with your mantel; how boldly you use those two big pieces (together!), with the slight offset. It IS very inspiring. And of course, Alice is the best accessory of all! Happy Spring!!
I love every detail…such a warm, comforting room..and your sleeping doggie is the icing on the cakeππΆ
Also, thank you for providing links to some of your items!
Tonya, first off itβs good to hear from ya again. I feel the same way about being too Springy in my house. This year I used pale colors as well . I love your quiet calm combination, very pretty, as usual everything is so well done.
Thanks so much Carole!
Wishing for spring. We are expecting a snow storm this weekend. Ugh! Your living room looks so welcoming. I love all the neutrals. You make everything sound so effortless. I Just love your style and truly get excited when I see you have posted something new.

Love the spring updates…sublte, but fresh..
Love your sleeping dog…nothing like ‘home’ with a pet π
As much as I hate the dog hair I couldn’t imagine home without her. β€
Your home always looks so welcoming and comfy, no matter the season – especially with your sleeping, sweet doggy. I never thought to put vases in a dough bowl – definitely using that idea.
Thanks Liz! So happy you found some inspiration here – always makes my day!
Love that you are blogging again because I love your style!
Thank you so much!
Every room looks so fresh. Love your style, and thanks so much for including where you purchase some of the items. I love the pouf and wish it was still available.
Target’s new Opalhouse line actually has a VERY similar looking pouf. π
Your room looks nice and refreshed with the spring touches…..just the subtle texture and color changes along with the the green plants make such a difference! The pops of green really do stand out!
Thanks Linda! I love having those little shots of green around the room. π
