Is it just me or does it feel like we’ve been in the month of January forever?
It’s not that I have anything against January – I like it just fine – but I do have the feeling of being on a hamster wheel for the past few weeks for some reason. Too much time spent snuggled on the couch in front of the fireplace perhaps? π
I did however, cross one thing off my list yesterday. I started last fall – and yes, I just finished late last night. I had a hard time getting into it, but once I start a book I almost always have to finish it, so I stuck with it – reading a chapter or two every so often, and it ended up being ok by the end. But my real motivation was so I could start . It’s been getting lots of buzz and I can’t wait to open it up later today.
I have been wanting to repaint the living room for months now. I just wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do. Pretty certain I’m going to go with the same color in the entry and up the stairwell and upstairs hallway.
Which means I’ll probably end up painting the dining room the same at some point too – because now that I’ve discovered I like white walls, I’m loving the idea of each room seamlessly flowing from one to the other.
I made the mistake of wandering into this store last weekend. They were having a massive sale and it looks like it’s still going. I wanted to buy one of everything. Less than $25 for this shirt? $40 for these jeans? Yes, please!
Speaking of new jeans. I sat on my white couch with dark rinse jeans a little while back – and left dark blue dye all over the upholstery. A quick rub with this pad and the blue dye came right off. If you have light upholstery you might want to pick one up – it’s great for spot cleaning between washes.
I can’t live through the winter (or the year really) without . I love that it moisturizes all day and soaks in almost immediately. It’s my favorite.
I think I said in my last Ramblings that I wanted to watch Godless on Netflix – I did and it was AMAZING. Gritty at times, but the story and acting (Jeff Daniels was genius) were so good, and from an artistic standpoint I thought it was so perfectly executed. I kind of want to watch it again.
And I’m what, three or four years late on both of these, but I recently watched this movie (loved it!) and started this series (love it too!).
Made this soup and it was SO GOOD. The recipe calls for stove top but I put mine in the crockpot (dumped everything in except the pasta and let it cook on low for about 6 hours). Seriously, you’ll want to make nom nom noises the whole time you’re eating it.
Happy Saturday friends!

I am quite sure you will be quite smitten with Downton. I love pretty much anything that is an English period piece, but Downton knocks it out of the park. Does the soup call for Beef broth? I have started using “Better than Bouillon Vegetable Base” instead of beef broth, and it makes everything taste just that much better ! Really enjoy the ramblings!!!

Hey, I just wanted to say I enjoyed this post. It felt like we were chatting over coffee! As a newly stay-at-home mom, chatting over coffee, even virtually, is the best thing ever!

Hi Corrie! I love that! You totally made my day. Coffee chats ARE pretty much the best. π

Thanks for the tip on cleaning the sofa! I plan on getting a light colored slipcover this year so hearing about how you eliminated a stain is very helpful. And that soup is delish! I’ve made it before and now you inspired me to make it again! Yeah, January is taking its good old time getting out of here and sometimes the winter blues set in but it makes me force myself to do something major around the house…and I think painting walls is good therapy! Right now I’m working on “Kintsugi” the Japanese art of repairing pottery (my daughter taught me briefly how to). Take a look on the Internet, it’s a very interesting way of looking at something that is broken. Tedious but worth the effort. I was just also thinking how you can apply that principle in life too.
Tonya says
Kintsugi sounds very interesting – and timely considering my life at the moment π – I’ll have to look into it. And I agree – painting walls IS good therapy. I can’t wait to start.

Actually just finished watching Godless this evening and absolutely loved it too – westerns are a fave of mine. Going to start Mrs. Maisel next, heard good things about it.

I’ve been hearing about that one a lot lately too. Adding it to the list!

Love your random ramblings! Please update us on the book you started. I agree, January does seem especially long this year. Luckily, the days are getting longer and we can look forward to spring coming. Yay!
Tonya says
I will definitely give an update on the book. I started it last night and after just a couple chapters I can already tell I’m going to like it!

Hi Tonya,
January is a bit the same for us. We were super busy with our store in December and we’re still in ‘catch up’ mode but January always seems long to me. Maybe it’s the shorter days and cooler weather. π
BTW, you will love Downton Abbey, watched it all the way through and thinking of watching it again, it’s that good!
January’s almost over and looking forward to Valentine’s Day. One of my favorite days of the year. Hope it turns out to be yours as well.
Blessings,
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth! I’m about halfway thru the first season of DA and I LOVE it. Everyone has always talked about how good it is, but period shows like that are hit and miss for me so I never watched it. So hooked!! As for Valentine’s Day – think I’m going to be sitting that one out for a while lol. π
