I’m one of those weird people who actually enjoys winter.
I love the snow, and the cold, and the bundling up, and the quiet.
That quiet calm after a fresh snow is my favorite.
You know the calm I’m talking about, right?
That perfect calm when you wake up the morning after it’s snowed all night, and step outside to a fresh blanket of white snow covering everything, and all around it’s perfect and still and quiet.
It’s just so peaceful.
That’s kind of how I wanted things to feel inside this winter too – calm and still and quiet.
So it’s back to neutral pillows on the sofa. This time in a palette of white, cream, and beige.
Subtle accents, like a wood bowl filled with pinecones and birch bark…
A simple stack of books topped by a wood bowl filled with a little green, paired with a favorite smelling candle, for the coffee table…
Cozy neutral accents for the chairs…
I shared a look at the mantel earlier this week – vintage frames, cotton stems, and candlelight…
And an easy display made up of simple branches, iron candlesticks, and an antler sits atop the apothecary cabinet.
Calm and still and quiet?
Check. Check. And Check.
And a good dose of cozy to boot.
As I’m typing this, the wind is howling outside, and the shutters are shaking, and I could not be happier all snuggled in and cozy under that pom pom throw. Happy Winter friends!

It’s beautiful, looks very cozy and I love that grey pillow, it almost looks like a rug made into a pillow, where did you get it?

Tonya says
Thanks Tania! The pillow is from Pottery Barn.

I’m a newbie to your blog, and you had me at “hello”. Why? Because of your neutral, rustic style that is similar to my own, and because you love winter. I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. This is not something I can say out loud this time of year, as an ice storm is about to roll in. I’d be safer discussing politics! 🙂 But a warm, cozy evening spent curled up with my knitting or a good book and a cup of Vanilla Almond tea just soothes my soul. I look forward to seeing more blog posts!
Tonya says
Thank you so much Clair! Winter is definitely a bad word here in Chicago – but I have no problem professing my love for it anyway. 🙂

Just wondering where you purchased the ?map above your bureau?
Tonya says
Hi Judy! That map is actually a drawing of our hometown and I purchased it from the local history museum there. You can read more about it here: https://rusticandwoven.com/2015/09/25/birds-eye-view-map/

This looks great! I love your fireplace too. I wish that pom pom throw was still available. Looking forward to seeing your dining room and the new piece you have. What did you do with the multi pane mirror that was in there? It might look nice over the sofa someday. Just a thought. I like to move stuff around to make it feel like new. Love your blog. Your house feels so cozy to me. I am drawn to smaller houses. They are so homey.
Tonya says
Hi Julie! You are so sweet – thank you so much! The large mirror is currently being stored on our sun porch – I’m planning on selling it. I actually purchased it to hang over our previous sectional – and it stayed on that wall for a few years, however – as lovely as that mirror is – I have decided it’s not really within the overall feel I see my home progressing in, so it’s time to find it a new home. Plus, like you, I like to move things around and that mirror is a major beast – not easy to move and does a number on the plaster. 🙁

I am never quite sure if I can combine white and cream, so again, love seeing it in your room. I have to look at every detail you share over and over as I just love the feel/look you create. Enjoy!!!
Tonya says
Aww thank you so much Patty! I think white and cream make a lovely combination – although it does take some getting used to because I think we were “taught” that cream would look dirty against white. I find the key to mixing the two is various textures – velvet/linen/tweed/faux fur, etc. Play around and see what catches your eye! 🙂
Patty says
Yes, that makes total sense once you say it….to mix the textures with those colors and hues. Thank you!!!
