‘Tis the Season

‘Tis the Season

Here it is.

November 30th and I’m publishing my first Christmas post.

I’ve been reading about Christmas online and in magazines for weeks now so I feel a bit like I’m late to the party.

You’ll still let me join you though, right? 🙂

Growing up, it was my family’s tradition to always decorate for Christmas during Thanksgiving weekend.  I can remember so often people wondering why we decorated “so early”.

How times have changed.

These days, waiting until Thanksgiving almost feels too late.

October/November Book Review

November 18, 2016

October/November Book Review

I know this month’s book review is coming at you late and I was going to wait until next month, but I know a number of you look forward to these, so I apologize for it taking me so long. I was trying to get through my latest book to add to the review, but it’s just not happening.  Guess you can figure out how much I like that one… 🙁

And since November is more than halfway over, I probably won’t do a book review until sometime in January – we’re heading into cheesy holiday movie season and that tends to cut into my reading time. I just love ’em. 😉

Simple and Pretty Fall Tablescape

November 14, 2016

Simple and Pretty Fall Tablescape

We will be heading back to Michigan for Thanksgiving this year, so we won’t be hosting Thanksgiving dinner, but I thought I would put together a simple tablescape to share with you anyway.

I had big plans for the kind of table I was going to do.

Pumpkins, and candles, and metallic leaves, and pretty little place settings.

But then I procrastinated.

And a bunch of my pumpkins rotted.

And then I procrastinated some more.

What’s in a Name?

November 9, 2016

What’s in a Name?

A post I did a little while back (you can read it here) got me thinking about “my style”.

What it is.

What I want it to be.

Where I see it going.

It’s all been hanging out at the front of my mind ever since writing that post.

I feel like now more than ever, I have a clear vision of how I want my home to feel and the kinds of things I want to bring in to accurately portray that feeling.

It has taken me years to be confident in this vision.

Years.

Office Makeover – The Other Vintage Cabinet and an Update

Office Makeover – The Other Vintage Cabinet and an Update

I have been slowly chipping away at putting my little office back together over the past month or so.

I didn’t exactly take an organized approach to emptying the room out before this makeover started – instead I took the completely unorganized approach of just haphazardly throwing everything into boxes and totes and piling them up in the basement.

So now as things come back in, I’m going through them one by one, and taking the time to determine what needs to stay and what can go.

And I have come to the conclusion that in addition to being a pillow hoarder, an antiques hoarder, and a book hoarder, I am also a paper hoarder.

Cable bills from 2007?  Heat and electric bills from four addresses prior?

The Captain’s Chair

November 1, 2016

The Captain’s Chair

Jordan and I took a little antiquing adventure over the weekend and boy did we find some really great stuff.  We loaded the truck with old books, vintage pots, old doors, an old farm table (actually we had to leave that one behind for pick up at a later date – we ran out of room.  Next time we will take a trailer. 😉 ), an old medicine cabinet, baskets, random little treasures, and one really awesome, completely one of a kind, wood feeding trough/tray.

I haven’t decided just what I’m going to do with the trough yet, so you’ll have to wait to hear me gush about all of its rusty hardware – chippy white paint – chewed up wood – awesomeness for another day.  But it really is one of my favorite finds to date.
