Fall Finds – High and Low

Fall Finds – High and Low

Have I mentioned I love the fall season?

Maybe once or twice, right? 🙂

So, it’s probably no surprise that the fall product lines at my favorite brands tend to be the ones I look forward to seeing the most.  Everything just screams “snuggle in and get cozy” and I want to bring it all home.

I thought I would do another High-Low today with some of my favorite fall finds this year.

Let’s get shopping!

Pottery Barn PB Basic White Slipcovered Sectional Review

Pottery Barn PB Basic White Slipcovered Sectional Review

I have always loved the look of white sofas, but the thought of actually owning one scared me for many years.

Our house is meant to be lived in, so that means our couch needs to be livable too.

It needs to be up for the occasional Sunday afternoon nap.

Be willing to accommodate pizza and movie night.

Work as an office for me, when writing this blog or shopping online only sounds appealing tucked into the cushions in front of the TV.

It needs to invite Saturday morning coffee and midnight ice cream binges.

It must not be offended by dog slobber or an accidental swipe of a grease-stained hand (I’m afraid that husband of mine also likes to wrench on cars in his spare time).

Rustic Fall Coffee Table

Rustic Fall Coffee Table

I never like doing “How-to” posts when it comes to decorating.

They make me a tiny bit uncomfortable.

Partly because I’m no expert, and partly because I feel like putting a home together is a uniquely personal journey – what may feel right to me, may not feel right to you. But from time to time, we all get stuck or overwhelmed with the process and it can help to see something broken down, step by step.

Early Fall Dining Room

Early Fall Dining Room

Do you hear that?

That little tap, tap, tap sound?

That’s the sound of me impatiently tapping my flip flops, arms crossed, and a scowl on my face.

Because I am so ready for sweater weather.

I want jeans and boots and plaid scarves.

I want lattes instead of frappuccinos.

I want my windows open and my air conditioning off.

I want comfort food and sweet treats in the oven.

Summer was lovely, but I want FALL.

Front Porch Progress

September 12, 2016

Front Porch Progress

I have been teasing for what seems like months about the new steps for the front of our house.

We have been working on them – I swear we have!

I say “we”, but in truth Jordan has been working on them – I’m just here to lend an opinion and words of encouragement every so often. 😉

As usual, this was one of those “no big deal, I can get it done in a weekend or two” projects that turned into way more work and time than anticipated.

But don’t they always?

Office Makeover – The Chair and the Vintage Cabinet

Office Makeover – The Chair and the Vintage Cabinet

Even with all the rearranging and decorating and cleaning in the living room, I managed to make a little progress in the office over the weekend too.

I have used the same wood desk chair for close to ten years.  Jordan saved it from the dumpster years ago when he worked for a surveyor.  It’s always been in rough shape, but things like that have never bothered me too much, so I just embraced the imperfections – it’s still a solid piece of furniture and with my hodgepodge of office furnishings, it never felt too out of place.

But now with the new office coming together, that lovely vintage chair really started to show its age.

Early Fall Decorating in the Living Room and a New Layout

Early Fall Decorating in the Living Room and a New Layout

Saturday started out a little like this…

I decided to swap out my pillow covers to get started with a little fall decorating.

But first, I decided I needed to readjust the placement of the living room rug – it has always bothered me that it didn’t lay past the fireplace.

In order to get the rug moved, I had to disconnect the sectional…

And since the sectional was disconnected I decided I might as well rearrange the furniture – I’ve been thinking about doing that for a while now.

And since I was rearranging furniture and already had everything apart, I decided I might as well throw the slipcovers in the wash.

Four (plus) hours later, the living room had a whole new layout – and I was finally able to get those pillow covers swapped out. 😉

The Best Season

The Best Season

It’s finally here!!

I wait for the fall season all year long.  Right now, I want time to slow down so I can savor every last bit of the next few months.

Crisp mornings.  Cool nights.  Cozy sweaters.  Boots.  Apple orchards.  Pumpkin spice everything.

When September hits, I immediately want hearty soups simmering on the stove and something delicious baking up in the oven (this bread is one of my favorites).
