The Stair Runner

The Stair Runner

Good morning!

Can I start out by saying I love how excited you all get about really simple things like chandeliers with or without shades?

You know what they say, “Birds of a feather…”

I just knew we were all meant to be.  🙂

But really, the conversation on Monday was super fun – thanks friends!

A Bright Idea

A Bright Idea

A few months ago, a reader suggested I remove the burlap shades from our dining room chandelier.  I kind of thought that sounded like a great idea, so I marched right into the dining room and yanked those little shades off…

…not that I don’t adore those burlap shades, because I totally do – but change is good sometimes, right?

So I gathered up those shades in my hands, took a step back – and I frowned.

Just like this. 🙁

The Key Element to a Cozy Home

The Key Element to a Cozy Home

I am not the most polished decorator, I don’t strive for magazine perfection, and I’m fully aware there is plenty of room for improvement around here – and I’m fine with all of that.  Well…most days I’m fine with all of that.  I think we all have days when a scroll through Instagram or Pinterest leaves us feeling like we don’t measure up, or that our home will never reach that image we have built up in our minds.

But the reality is, I don’t want my home to be a showroom.  Don’t get me wrong, I want it to be pretty – pretty spaces are what inspire my mind – but I don’t want it to feel so pretty that it doesn’t seem real or livable.

You know what I mean?

Farmhouse Style Finds – High and Low

Farmhouse Style Finds – High and Low

You know those articles in magazines where they show you an item for one price and then find a similar looking item at a less expensive price?

I kind of love those articles.

I have no idea why.

But since I do find them to be so much fun, I decided to create my own and rounded up a few fun farmhouse finds to share with you today.

The Best Smelling Candles. Ever.

The Best Smelling Candles. Ever.

When it comes to things around the house – style, colors, decorating – Jordan and I are usually right in sync with one another.  We both love old things, neutral colors, and a relaxed, comfy atmosphere.

We find it fun to drive around and look at old houses, admiring the architecture and gathering ideas for our own home.  On a recent trip to Tennessee, I can’t tell you how many times the words “Whoa…look at that house!” were exclaimed by one or both of us during the ride.

Hey…I never said we were cool. 😉

But old Southern houses are pretty amazing.

June Book Review

June Book Review

Good morning!

There was a lot of positive response to my Summer Reading List, so I thought you guys might like to see a book review every once in a while.  I’m thinking once a month I’ll write a little recap on the books I’ve read the month before, and maybe those on my “to-read” list for the current month.  I usually read on average, three to four books a month – but I’ve also been known to get stuck in one book for three to four months – so there’s no telling how much variety you will be getting. 🙂

Regardless, I always love getting book recommendations, and most of my reader friends do as well, so why not share the love here too?

SOME THINGS ARE JUST MEANT TO BE

SOME THINGS ARE JUST MEANT TO BE

Treasure hunting is probably my favorite summertime activity.  Flea markets, garage sales, yard sales, estate sales…they are all in full force during the summer months and I just can’t get enough.

Jordan and I have been scouting out some new markets and there is no end to the inspiration that comes from all the beautiful “old stuff” out there.  Truth be told, we should probably be spending more time working on the house than filling our basement with treasures, but we’re having too much fun to stop.  🙂

There will be some progress made around here…life has been busy…but I promise it is coming.

We’ve talked about the new front steps so much, and I can picture it so well in my mind, that I sometimes forget that it’s not done.  I so cannot wait to get that project going – I keep seeing beautiful blooming hydrangea bushes and I am dying for those to be in the front of my house too.  Soon friends, soon!

Hello, I’m Tonya

I have a passion for old houses, consider painting a room therapeutic, and believe the perfect Sunday begins around dawn at the local Flea Market. I hope you find inspiration here to help turn your house into a home you love.
