Our living room walls are pretty empty.
Like almost completely empty.
Craving a blank slate after Christmas, I refused to hang anything up – but slowly I’ve been wanting that little bit of personality to add an extra “oomph” to the room.
With all the talk of the front porch…and the back porch…and the landscaping…and the bathroom…and the office, you’re probably thinking I have abandoned our bedroom makeover. It’s still very much in the works – but I’ve decided I need to let it evolve on its own, instead of forcing it along.
I don’t know about you, but a lot of the time I feel like everyone else starts and finishes projects over night, and I often feel the pressure to do the same. But the truth is, sometimes I don’t know exactly what I want – or I can’t find exactly what I want – and when I start making choices for the sole purpose of getting a project complete, I almost always end up disappointed, frustrated, and wanting a do-over. So now, whenever I reach a sticking point or lose interest, I simply take a break and wait for the inspiration to strike again – sometimes it’s days, sometimes it’s months, and sometimes it might even be years, but I’m always happier in the end.
Do you shop at Pier 1 Imports?
I’ll admit that I haven’t spent a lot of time there. Recently, however, it has become one of my go-to places to look for affordable floral stems – they have a wide variety and most are well priced and of great quality. Plus, a store just opened up a few doors down from a nearby Home Goods, so it’s kind of a no-brainer to stop in for a quick peek when I’m making my weekly Home Goods trip in the neighborhood.
You all probably know by now that we’re originally from Michigan, and currently living just outside of Chicago. What I may not have mentioned before is that before we landed in Illinois, we also lived briefly in West Virginia and then Texas. Work (or in most cases lack thereof) had us hopping around a bit before we settled in to our current home.
While nothing can compare to a life lived in Michigan – I may be just a teensy bit biased – we were gifted so many awesome friendships, memories, and experiences from each place. Moving is a pain, but I wouldn’t change a thing about our “gypsy years”.
Ok, I admit it – I am a pillow hoarder.
It is rare to look into any basket, open any drawer, glance inside any closet, or peer beneath the lid of any trunk or tote in this house and not find at least one pillow, or a stack of pillow covers, hiding inside. I have so many pillow hiding spots that I sometimes forget where they are.
And I have no plans to stop anytime soon. 😉
You have heard me say it before – the quickest and easiest way to change the look of your living room is by swapping out the pillows on your sofa. Pillows instantly up the cozy factor in any space – and if you ask me, the more pillows the merrier. Even just changing out one or two can instantly brighten and refresh the entire room.
Who else is guilty of running into Target for the sole purpose of grabbing toilet paper and milk and leaving with a new lamp, a cozy throw blanket, a great pair of sandals, and a latte from the Starbucks cafe?
And who else is guilty of leaving with all those awesome things and totally forgetting the toilet paper and milk?
Please tell me I’m not the only one. 🙂
Happy Monday!
Please excuse my absence last week – Jordan’s sister came to stay for a few days and I took the week off to enjoy her visit. It’s always nice to have family around. 🙂
Remember a month or so ago when I talked about sprucing up my home office (you can read it here)? Well, not long after that post I was given the sad news that I would be needed in the office full time – so no more working from home for me. Boo.
Good Morning!
I know I have some Fixer Upper fans out there. Anyone else as sad as I am that Season Three is over? 🙁
Thank goodness for re-runs, am I right?!
Once upon a time, I was chatting with a friend about Fixer Upper and they said something along the lines of “I like that show, but sometimes I don’t know what she’s thinking with some of the stuff that she does.”
To which I replied, “I’m going to have to ask you leave if you keep talking like that.”
Kidding!! I did not say that.
I just thought it.
No, no, no. I did nothing of the sort. Promise. 🙂
Hello friends!
So you may have heard me mention a time or two before that we have a little sun porch on the back of our house. When we first bought the house, the plan was to eventually tear it down and replace it with a back deck. The roof was leaking, the windows were old, the walls needed repair work – in other words, it had seen better days.
But…plans change. You know how it goes. 🙂
