Looking Back…

December 31, 2015

Looking Back…

How is it the last day of 2015?!?!

I swear each year goes by faster than the one before.

This year was definitely a year full of highs and lows for us.  I do my best to remind myself to cherish the memories of the highs and learn a lesson or two from the lows. It’s my belief that it all happens for a reason, good and bad.

One of the big surprises for me this year was the start of this blog. I had been thinking about starting a blog for some time before hitting “publish” on my first post back in March (you can read that post here). A couple of years ago, I stumbled across Layla Palmer’s blog, The Lettered Cottage, during a random google search and was immediately drawn to her home, her style, and her voice. Before long, I was following a number of different blogs on a regular basis – each unique in their own way, but united by the passion for creating a comfortable, meaningful home and the desire to share it with others. Simple Ideas for a Cozy Winter Home

Simple Ideas for a Cozy Winter Home

It’s that weird time between Christmas and the New Year when I start getting excited to pack all the “stuff” away and go back to a simpler, more neutral decor, but at the same time I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree. Traditionally, the Christmas decorations come down on New Year’s Day in our house – and it never fails that after a day of packing and cleaning and clearing away the holiday clutter the first words out of my mouth as I sit down to relax are “I miss my tree.”

There is just so much magic in a Christmas tree, don’t you agree?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Eve, friends!

Can you believe how quickly the month went by?  I know Christmas comes on the 25th of December every year, but somehow it snuck up on me this year – I feel like I just put my tree up yesterday…I haven’t even watched Elf yet…! (Is Elf a Christmas tradition in your house?  Cuz it totally is in mine.)

Favorite Gingerbread

Apologies, but I don’t have any pretty spaces to share with you today. I tried to spend as much time away from the computer as I could this weekend. Sometimes, it feels good to close down the laptop and leave the phone in another room for a couple of days, know what I mean? 🙂

My shopping and wrapping is officially done, but if I’m being real – I feel like I came up a bit short in the Christmas festivities this year…

The Little Plaid That Could…

I was not going to do any Christmas decorating in our bedroom this year.

I really wasn’t.

But….

Monday Inspiration

Good morning, friends!!

I hope you all had a nice weekend. Can you believe we only have one weekend left before Christmas??  I tried so very hard to check all my Christmas shopping off my list this weekend, but it just didn’t happen. However, Jordan and I did manage to fit in date night, and I spent a lazy Sunday puttering around the house – wrapping the presents I do have, baking cookies and just enjoying being home. So all in all, it was a good weekend at the Smith house. 🙂

Christmas Decorating with Vintage Finds

Christmas Decorating with Vintage Finds

I love incorporating antiques and vintage pieces into my everyday décor – so it’s probably no surprise that I like to use them for holiday decorating too. I always keep my eyes open for pretty vintage ornaments and nostalgic Christmas decorations when out antiquing, but I like using non-holiday antiques for Christmas decorating as well.

Here are a few of my favorites from this year…

Christmas Tour – Source List

Thank you all for your sweet comments from my Christmas Tour! I realized after the post that I didn’t include any sources – and you said you liked to see a source list – so I thought I’d check in today with a quick rundown of things. Besides, that tour post was long enough without a list, am I right? 🙂

Monday Inspiration

I finally took a little time yesterday to go through some of the fabulous Christmas home tours that started last week…

Ok, maybe it was a lot of time…

I’ll admit I found myself completely lost in so many of them that I probably spent more time on the couch browsing than I should have, but I just couldn’t help it – so much prettiness out there to soak in!

And I’m not even done reading them all yet! Each and every home is different and beautiful and unique and I’m constantly inspired by all the creativity these bloggers have to share. I’m hoping to steal a night or two this week to make my way through the rest.

Holiday Housewalk 2015

Hello friends! I know I’m all off my normal Monday, Wednesday, Friday blog schedule, BUT I finally have my Christmas tour ready to share with you today – yay!! I told myself I was going to simplify my holiday decorating this year – but perhaps I need to learn the meaning of “simplify” – it was still a lot more work than I anticipated.

I wanted a cozy/country/cottage type vibe this year, so I went with a traditional Christmas color scheme using lots of red, white and green.  I mixed new and old décor, vintage pieces, and both fresh and faux greenery throughout – and now the house feels super cozy and festive.  I can’t wait to relax and enjoy it now that the work is done. 🙂
