Happy (late) Monday!!

We had such a great time last week in Michigan, I was so sad to see our trip end. I find myself homesick from time to time, but this time of year is the definitely the hardest. There’s just nothing like being surrounded by your family and closest friends during the holidays.

We decided to get our Christmas tree while we were there, so after our nearly eight hour drive home yesterday, I armed myself with a hot cup of coffee and an endless supply of Christmas music and got to work. The tree is now trimmed and our halls are officially decked…mostly...

I have the biggest holiday decorating plans every year, and I inevitably lose steam or don’t have what I want/need to make my vision come to life. This year, rather than run around to every store, I decided to consider it “good enough” so I can just relax and enjoy the season from this point forward. I’d rather spend my time baking gingerbread, wrapping pretty presents and watching cheesy Christmas movies snuggled up with my favorite guy, over worrying about every corner of my house looking picture perfect. Ok, so the odds of me getting Jordan to snuggle up and watch a Christmas movie are slim to none, but a girl can dream, right?  🙂  This also means I may not be posting as much over the next few weeks. You’ll be hearing from me, just maybe not three times a week. We’ll see… 🙂 [Read more…]

A Few of My Favorite Things

November 25, 2015

A Few of My Favorite Things

Sorry guys – this post was supposed to happen much earlier, but time got away from me, and we spent the majority of today travelling, but that’s ok because I am officially on vacation for the remainder of the week. Yay!!

I am super excited to celebrate Thanksgiving in Michigan. This will be our first Thanksgiving spent back “home” with everyone in six years – I can’t wait to have my dad’s famous turkey and my mom’s delicious apple pie. Yum!

I’m also super excited for Black Friday shopping with my mom. We had a long running tradition of getting up and out the door bright and early to snag as many bargains as we could. It was never really about the shopping as much as it was about the fun – it was an unofficial kickoff to Christmas of sorts and I’m so happy we’ll be resuming the tradition this year. [Read more…]

Good Morning and Happy Monday!

Are you all ready for Thanksgiving? I am looking forward to spending the holiday with our family and friends back in Michigan. We had almost a foot of snow dropped on us here in Chicago over the weekend, so it has me feeling extra festive – I was tempted to go out and get my Christmas tree – but I held off for one more week. My family has always had a tradition of decorating for Christmas the weekend of Thanksgiving, so just in case you’re planning on decking the halls this weekend as well, I have some Christmas inspiration for you today. Bold and Dramatic Accent Color

November 20, 2015

Bold and Dramatic Accent Color

More and more I find myself drawn toward rooms painted in some shade of white. It feels crisp, clean, cozy, and classic – and it’s the perfect backdrop for just about anything you want to put with it.

However, I have also noticed that I have been pinning spaces that feature walls or accents painted in dramatic shades of charcoal, black or navy.  There is a certain sophisticated coziness that seems to come from using such bold color in a room.

While I don’t feel the look is right for my house, I do find myself loving it a little bit more every time I see it.

Let’s see what you think… [Read more…]

Three Alternatives to a Traditional Side Table

Three Alternatives to a Traditional Side Table

I receive lots of compliments for the antique box/wicker trunk combo in our living room. I randomly stacked the two together one day, realized they were near perfect table height, and really liked the look –I’ve been using them as a side table ever since. [Read more…]

Good Morning!

Oh the weekends are just not long enough! Just when I get all my work done (ok, not all my work – but a good part of it) and start to enjoy them, it’s time to start getting ready for the work week ahead. Boo.

Jordan was out of town this weekend, so I started Saturday bright and early by dropping Alice off for her “spa day” (aka the groomer) and treated myself to breakfast and a little shopping at a couple of my favorite shops before buckling down and taking care of chores. While I didn’t check everything off my to-do list, I made a good dent, and that’s always a good feeling. [Read more…]

You can put Lipstick on a Pig…

You can put Lipstick on a Pig…

You’ve all heard the phrase “You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still just a pig”, right? In other words, superficial changes are just a weak attempt at disguising something’s truth. Well, that old saying came to mind a couple of months ago while I was shopping in Target and spotted the cutest shower curtain. I was instantly drawn to its simple white background and lovely dark gray flower detail. I grabbed it from the shelf and held it excitedly in my hands…

…and then I remembered…

…we have the worst bathroom ever. EV-ER. [Read more…]

Dried Gourds

November 11, 2015

Dried Gourds

Back during the start of the fall season, Jordan and I took a day trip to a sweet little town away from the city known for its antiques. We had a great time wandering the shops and enjoying a break from the busy hustle that often comes with living so near a big city like Chicago.

Almost every shop that day had an endless amount of dried gourds for sale – and they came in every size and shape you could imagine. I don’t recall ever seeing dried gourds before, or maybe I’ve just never paid attention, but I found myself drawn to their rustic look, so I brought a few home with me. [Read more…]

Good morning friends!

I hope you all had a nice weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed wandering around and doing errands in the beautifully brisk fall weather we’re having. Finally I was able to wear the cute plaid scarf I picked up last month! 🙂

Although my house won’t be getting decked out for Christmas for a couple of more weeks, I have been putting together my ideas and inspiration so I can formulate a plan of attack. Would you believe the Christmas supply at Home Goods and Marshalls was already looking picked over? Either I’m really behind this year, or everyone else is ahead of the game. That’s ok – money saved, right? [Read more…]

An Inexpensive and Easy way to add Character to your Fireplace

An Inexpensive and Easy way to add Character to your Fireplace

TGIF! Ever have those weeks that just drag on and on? That’s how this week was for me, and it was brutal – I’m so glad the weekend is finally here! I’m also pretty excited about what I have to share with you today, because…the next stage of our fireplace makeover is complete!! 🙂 🙂

Before you get too excited (I just know you’re all on the edge of your seats right now), this isn’t a drastic makeover or anything extraordinary – but I never wanted it to be. I simply wanted a subtle way to add some character and allow our fireplace to be more of a focal point in the living room – and I really think we achieved that.

Should I stop talking and just show you the picture already?

Ok, ok…
