Design Dilemmas

Design Dilemmas

Remember a couple of months ago when I was all gung-ho on giving our bedroom a makeover (you can read my inspiration post here and a progress post here)?

I was so sure of what I wanted that room to be and how I was going to get it done. Sure, there were a few details I still had to figure out, but for the most part I was pretty confident about how I was going to make that room a whole new, beautiful space.

I rearranged the furniture, found new bedding, bought and painted a new dresser (still not happy with that by the way), had Jordan make an awesome shelf (you can see that here), and finally laid down the rug I purchased about six months prior.

And that’s when I hit a wall. [Read more…]

Rustic Fall Centerpiece

Rustic Fall Centerpiece

I have the easiest fall centerpiece to share with you today. You probably already have things you can use to recreate this yourself – and anything you don’t have can likely be found on your next trip to the grocery store. I actually did this same centerpiece last year, but I liked how it turned out and thought I would repeat it this year so I could share it with all of you. 🙂 [Read more…]

Monday Inspiration

Umm….where exactly did the weekend go??? I had big plans to be super productive this weekend, and well…that didn’t quite happen.

I did manage to make some progress on the fireplace makeover (you can read that post here), I hope to have it finished up this week. Bad new is: I didn’t get it done. Good new is: I think I’m gonna like it. 🙂

And uhhh, that’s about all I (somewhat) accomplished. I also got some grocery shopping done, enjoyed a couple of pumpkin spice lattes, and made it to the final flea market for this year. Considering I wanted to complete the fireplace, clean out the basement, carve some pumpkins, finish painting the half bathroom, and bake an apple pie (in addition to grocery shopping, PSLs, and the flea market), I wouldn’t exactly call this weekend a success in the progress department, but that’s what next weekends are for, right? The One That Got Away

The One That Got Away

I have a crush.

I have a crush on a beautiful kilim rug – and it’s a problem.

You see, I fell head over heels, completely in love at first sight, with this beautiful kilim rug that is made of lovely shades of chocolate brown, beige, and ivory – and has the sweetest little white fringe on the ends.

I fell so in love with this rug, I immediately thought That’s it! That’s the rug I need in our upstairs hallway! It’s perfect! [Read more…]

The Paint Colors in our Home

The Paint Colors in our Home

I am not afraid to pick up a paint brush on a Friday night. True, I don’t like taking the room apart, shoving all the furniture into the center of the room, or washing paint brushes and rollers, but the actual painting part – I find that rather relaxing. It’s one of the few times when I can shut my mind off and just focus on the task at hand. By no means am I a perfect painter, but I’ve done it enough over the past ten years that I’ve become pretty okay at it. Jordan once commented that pretty soon our walls are going to stick out over our trim because I have so many coats on them. Tee-hee. 🙂

Monday Inspiration

Good Morning!

Did you all have a nice weekend? I spent the weekend in Michigan shopping with my mom – so much fun! We crammed a lot into a short amount of time though, so I am officially tired, out of money, and already looking forward to the upcoming weekend so I can sleep in. 🙂 [Read more…]

Styling Bookshelves

Styling Bookshelves

Probably one of the most notable features in our home are the bookshelves along the back wall of the living room. It was the first big project we tackled after moving in – and it’s one of my favorite things about the house now too.

Whether you have a whole wall of shelves like me, or just a small bookshelf tucked into a corner, the right styling can make all the difference. While I’ve seen shelves so full with books they’re practically spilling out, and loved the look, I prefer to use my shelves to house not just my favorite titles, but pictures, and boxes, and other random treasures too. It’s a great way to display some of your favorite things and make them feel relevant in the space. [Read more…]

A Pumpkin Here, a Pumpkin There…

A Pumpkin Here, a Pumpkin There…

It’s October, so pumpkin season is in full swing (as if you didn’t notice, right?).  It seems the world has gone pumpkin crazy the last few years – be it baking, drinking, or decorating – but it’s because using pumpkins around the house is a really simple way to add seasonal decorating to your home.  Just plop down a pumpkin and poof! – instant fall décor (and of course it makes a tasty treat too). I shared my front steps and pumpkin mantel with you last week, but the pumpkin fun doesn’t stop there! I sprinkled in some of that pumpkin love in other areas of the house too. [Read more…]

Monday Inspiration

Happy Monday!!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Since I have some new “faces” around here, I thought I’d take a quick moment and introduce myself and tell you a little bit more about me:

My name is Tonya, I’m married to an all around handyman/builder/mechanic/super-cute guy named Jordan, and we share our home with our slightly goofy, but undeniably sweet, dog named Alice.

We purchased our 1930’s fixer upper about four years ago – we’ve accomplished a lot, but we still have a lot to go. We do everything ourselves, so projects sometimes take for.ev.er – but they do eventually get completed. I promise. [Read more…]
