House Tour – The Bedrooms

House Tour – The Bedrooms

So, I meant to get this post done last night, but when I hopped in my car after work yesterday I was unpleasantly surprised to find that it would not start. Three and a half hours and a tow truck ride later, my car and I were safely dropped off at home (after which Jordan was able to discover it was just a loose and dirty starter wire. Or something like that anyway…) – but it kind of put a wrench in the evening’s plans and no blog post was done.

I realized earlier this week that I never really finished the “House Tour” by showing you the other two bedrooms. Probably because I haven’t done much for decorating in either one – but that’s ok, I’ll give you the before and afters anyway. [Read more…]

Tuesday Inspiration

Is it really Tuesday already??

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. Jordan was out of town, so I did a little exploring – I finally made my way to a fantastic shop a friend had recommended a while back – and what a treat! The whole place is full of handmade and/or salvaged pieces and has inspiration bursting out the windows (it’s called Lucky Junk in Arlington Heights for any of you in Chicagoland – I highly recommend stopping in). I also made a visit to one of my favorite antiques stores and found some new treasures. Everything was 20% off – you know I couldn’t walk out of there empty handed! 🙂 Sadly, we had a little rain Sunday morning and so I didn’t make it to the flea market like I wanted, but there’s always next week! Antique Bottle Hanging Bud Vase

Antique Bottle Hanging Bud Vase

One night a couple of years ago, Jordan came home with a box of antique bottles he found while working near the site of an old landfill. Some husbands bring home flowers, mine brings home old bottles from the dump (Just teasing, J – you know if given the choice I’d choose the bottles every time! 🙂 ).  They were full of dirt and bugs and who knows what else, so I placed the box on the back porch and kind of forgot about them for a while – until recently.

I had the idea to make some sort of hanging bud vase, and I immediately thought the bottles would be perfect for the project. What do you think? [Read more…]

Treasure Hunting

Treasure Hunting

By now I think you all know I love a good antiques find. Don’t get me wrong, I love retail giants like Home Goods and Target just as much as the next girl, but the items I find while out at the flea market or antiquing always tend to be the most special to me – I call them treasures. 🙂 [Read more…]

Monday Inspiration – Week 2

Monday Inspiration – Week 2

Good morning friends! I think we’re going to make Monday Inspiration a weekly thing for a while. I mean, who doesn’t like to start their week off being inspired by beautiful spaces?

Clearly I have been craving some time at the beach as you will see by what I’ve been drawn to lately. Maybe because it was 80 degrees and 200% humidity all weekend here  – I could have used a little time by the water (ok, so I might have exaggerated the humidity part a wee bit, but it was very humid). I’ll take the 80 degrees – the humidity not so much. 🙂 [Read more…]

A Quick Change to the Bookshelves

A Quick Change to the Bookshelves

“To add a library to a house is to give that house a soul.” – Cicero

I have always dreamed of having one whole room as a dedicated library in my house – complete with rolling ladders and overstuffed leather chairs. I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember, and can spend hours wandering a bookstore, coffee in hand, browsing shelf after shelf, aisle after aisle.   There’s something so calming about being surrounded by books, don’t you think? Monday Inspiration

Do you ever have those weekends where you just can’t find the motivation to do anything? Well, that’s the kind of weekend I just had. I had (and still do) a list a mile long of things needing to be done, and I didn’t accomplish a one of them.

Instead I filled my weekend with some “window” shopping online, getting caught up on the DVR, and a fair amount of time on Pinterest. I also managed to find the time to squeeze in a nap or two. It was tough, but I managed. 🙂 [Read more…]

Vintage Finds for the Dining Room

Vintage Finds for the Dining Room

I have acquired a few new treasures over the last month or so, and I finally took some time this weekend to display some of them. I was getting kind of bored with things in the dining room, so that’s where I started.

I started by reorganizing the buffet a bit. It was starting to look a little sloppy, so I moved things around on the lower shelf and inside the glass front doors and now I feel like it is a little more balanced. [Read more…]

Thoughts for an Old Frame…

Yesterday I shared with you some ideas I had for our bathroom remodel.  I have a quick follow up to that based on a thought I just had for an old wood frame I picked up at an antiques store over the weekend. [Read more…]
