Favorite IKEA Finds

When I mentioned I was headed to IKEA last weekend, I was asked to share my favorite finds.  I thought that sounded like a fun idea, so while I was there I took a stroll through the different departments to see what I could see.  And quite a few things caught me eye.

So let’s shop!

IKEA Curtains for the Living Room

IKEA Curtains for the Living Room

A new paint color always leads to additional new somethings, right?

In the case of the living room, it lead to new curtains. As my endless decluttering of the basement continues, I recently came across two sets of white curtains from IKEA that I had bought years ago and never used.  I looked online and saw they were still available, so off to the store I went for one more set to complete the room. I have been wanting to replace both my curtains and rods in this room for quite some time.  So long in fact, that I purchased new curtain rods and rings well over a year ago, but never got around to installing them.  And now I know why because hanging curtains rods on old plaster walls is a NIGHTMARE.

Happy Saturday my friends!

What fine things do you have planned for the day? I need to make a run to Ikea.  Keep me in your prayers, because that place is crazy.

I’m making the trip for a couple of little things, but while I’m there I’m definitely going to give this chair a spin.  I LOVE the look and can’t wait to see it in person.

Living Room in Cloud Cover

Living Room in Cloud Cover

I finished painting the living room white over the weekend.  Boy do I love the way that sounds. πŸ™‚

In case you missed it in the last post the new color is Benjamin Moore Cloud Cover.  The trim, fireplace and ceiling stayed Simply White (also BM).

I had one wall left to finish up. Awkward small room + big furniture = a lot of shoving and shifting to get the job done.

But it’s all finished now and everything is back into (a new) place.  I still have to hang curtains – there’s a new plan for that – and put some things back up on the walls (maybe), but I thought I’d let you see the whole room in all its light, bright, and white glory while I’m working on getting those other details squared away. Also I used Millennium Flooring Austin, TX.

Sound like an okay plan to you?

Beautiful Living Rooms with White Walls

Beautiful Living Rooms with White Walls

I finally did it!

I painted the living room walls white. I’ve only been saying I was going to do this since…what…January??? And now that it’s (mostly) done – I cannot believe it took me so long to do it, because I love, LOVE the result.

While I was at it, I also rearranged the furniture layout and have another small change or two to finish – so as soon that’s all wrapped up I will give you a full look at the “new” room.

And until then, here’s a peek…

Alice – Two Months After Cancer Diagnosis

Alice – Two Months After Cancer Diagnosis

It’s been two months since Alice was diagnosed with metastatic mast cell cancer (you can read the original post here).

She had her monthly checkup this past Saturday and I would say it went pretty well…

The tumor? Undetectable.

The lymph node? No longer enlarged.

The blood work? Perfect.

My sweet, loveable, lazy-as-can-be dog is showing this disease right where it can stick it.  πŸ™‚  So take that, cancer!

Cozy Minimalism

Cozy Minimalism

I have never thought of myself as a minimalist.

Correction – I am not a minimalist.

I like things.

I like to buy things.

I like to collect things.

I like to be surrounded by things.

I don’t and never have liked a lot of visual clutter. Too much clutter and things being out of place makes me crabby and uneasy – but if I can keep all the crap contained and hidden away for a later day (out of sight, out of mind!), I am perfectly okay with that – it’s how I roll.

Until.

The Other Nightstand and Stripes

June 11, 2018

The Other Nightstand and Stripes

After I painted the first nightstand for my room (see it here), I had plans to paint another little stand I already had to use for the other side of the bed.

But every time I went to paint it, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.  I have always had plans to use that particular stand for the guest room and I really like it in its current color – so I grabbed another little table I have had for just about ever and gave it a try instead.  It was already white and the same general height as my other stand, so why not? This is not to say you can’t have two different color/height night stands (you totally can!), it’s just not the look I’m after.
